Pingliang City Kongtong Mountain National Geological Park

Project Overview

Located 12 kilometers west of Pingliang City in Gansu Province, Kongtong Mountain overlooks Xi'an to the east, connects to Lanzhou to the west, borders Baoji to the south, and stretches northward toward Yinchuan. It served as a vital fortress on the ancient Silk Road, marking the western gateway out of Guanzhong. Covering an area of 84 square kilometers, the mountain boasts a majestic main peak standing at 2,123 meters above sea level. Blending breathtaking, perilous, and elegant natural scenery with timeless, exquisite cultural landmarks, it holds immense value for sightseeing, cultural appreciation, and scientific research. Since ancient times, it has been celebrated as "the First Mountain from the West," "a Marvelous Wonder of the Western Region," and "Kongtong Mountain's Beauty Surpasses All Under Heaven." The site features a solemn and refined complex of eight platforms, nine palaces, twelve courtyards, and 42 distinctive architectural structures, complemented by 72 remarkable stone grottoes and cave sanctuaries—each exuding grandeur and steeped in profound historical significance. Notably, it was designated as part of the third batch of National Geological Parks.
