Yesterday, reporters learned from the Xi'an Municipal Motor Vehicle Parking Service Center that, in order to further standardize the parking fee market and make it more convenient for citizens to park, the center will begin equipping its parking attendants with POS machines starting this April. Additionally, parking information recording will become智能化 (smartized), allowing car owners to pay their parking fees simply by swiping their cards.
The city will select 50 pilot sites.
For now, only OneCard can be used.

According to Shao Shan, spokesperson for the Xi'an Municipal Motor Vehicle Parking Service Center, in April of this year, the center will select 50 parking sites out of the city's 800 public parking locations—covering a total of 20,000 parking spaces—to pilot this POS-machine-based card-payment system.

It is reported that the selection of pilot operation sites is currently under investigation. These sites could be located either in the city center or in the suburbs, depending on factors such as traffic volume and parking facility conditions. Once the pilot sites are finalized, POS terminals will be provided to the site attendants. During the trial phase, drivers will initially be able to pay parking fees only by swiping their OneCard. As the system expands further in the future, the center plans to gradually introduce more card types compatible with POS machines, making it even more convenient for drivers to pay for parking.

Shao Shan explained that the process of using POS machines for fee collection is simple and convenient. Not only does it eliminate irregular charges and minimize human-induced conflicts during the payment process, but it also speeds up billing and enhances the city's overall aesthetic appeal.

When the vehicle owner needs to park, the toll collector will guide them to an appropriate parking spot, then activate the vehicle-entry registration mode on the POS terminal. The driver will enter the vehicle number and parking space number, and a receipt will be printed—displaying details such as the vehicle number, parking space number, parking duration, and the toll collector’s ID—for the driver to keep safely. When the driver returns to retrieve the vehicle, they simply hand the receipt back to the toll collector, who uses it to locate the corresponding parking information and switches to the vehicle-exit billing mode. The system will automatically calculate the total charge, after which the vehicle owner can complete payment by swiping their card. Even if the receipt is lost, there’s no need to worry—thanks to the vehicle number, the toll collector can easily retrieve the relevant parking details from the POS terminal and still process the payment accurately via card swipe.

Use a POS machine to record parking information and process payments by swiping cards—this ensures that the exact times of vehicle entry and exit, as well as the amount paid, are clearly visible, creating clear accountability for both the toll collectors and drivers.
